Camp Rules

Over 70 years of operation in managing a large number of students with diverse interests and backgrounds, the Midwestern Music Camps have developed rules and regulations to provide a functional learning environmentFailure to comply with these rules is cause for a camper to be immediately dismissed from Camp, with no refund of fees. These regulations apply from the time the student checks into the residence hall until check out.  While on campus, commuters are subject to the same rules as residence hall campers.   If you have questions concerning the following regulations, do not hesitate to seek clarification.

Drugs

Campers will not consume, possess or knowingly be in the presence of any type of alcoholic beverage, illegal drug or narcotic. Theauthorities will be notified, and violators will be dismissed without refund. Smoking is not allowed.  It is illegal in the state of Kansas for anyone under the age of 18 to purchase or possess tobacco. All campus buildings are covered by the public laws banning smoking.  Violators will be dismissed without refund.

Physical Dangers

Causing physical danger to others is reason for dismissal without refund. This includes but is not limited to endangering the life or safety of a camper (including yourself), physical violence, over the counter drug abuse, pranks with a potential for harm to any person or property, and the possession of martial arts "toys" or weapons. Fireworks are prohibited. Campers may not possess or set off fireworks of any kind.

Personal Cars

If a camper elects to drive an automobile to camp, he or she will turn over all keys to the residence hall director on arrival. The car will remain parked in the assigned residence hall lot. Commuters may only park in the assigned parking lot, and will not need a parking permit. Commuters may not offer rides to resident campers. Doing so will result in dismissal from camp for all parties.

Skateboards/Rollerblades

No Skateboards or rollerblades are allowed at Camp. They are banned on the KU campus.

Sign Out

For their protection, all campers will observe sign-out procedures when leaving the residence hall, except while attending class. Unless signed out, campers are expected to either be in class or in the assigned dormitory.  Junior High Campers must have written parental approval to leave the KU campus and must clear all trips with their Resident Assistant. Failure to observe sign-out procedures, failure to return before closing, or absence from class is grounds for dismissal from camp.

Rides

Campers are not allowed to ride in or on any unauthorized vehicle. Authorized transportation includes public taxi, public bus, a camp staff member's car (in case of illness or necessity), and the camper's own bicycle. Written parental permission, residence hall administration approval, and completion of the proper forms are all required if a camper wishes to leave campus, and/or ride in the cars of close relatives or friends of the family.

Class Attendance

Attendance is required at all classes and rehearsals. Campers who intentionally miss class will be sent home. If you miss a class or rehearsal because of illness, you must notify your Resident Assistant or Assistant Resident Director. Students with illness will be taken to Watkins Health Center.

Visitors

We request that family visits be limited to non-class times.  Lunch and dinner breaks are best for visitation. Should a non-camp boyfriend/girlfriend visit, they will be allowed into the lobby of the residence hall.  A camper may not, however, leave the hall with them or meet them outside.  Students may not visit the rooms, floors or living areas of the opposite sex. Behavior in areas open to all campers is expected to conform to normal standards for public places.

Leaving Camp

If a student is excused from camp and misses a class, it is the responsibility of the student to notify all instructors and directors. Forms are available from the Resident Assistants and must be signed by an Assistant Resident Director.
