KU Jazz Workshop

There is no uniform prepared audition music for the KU Jazz Workshop; however, students should bring a short excerpt or selection that they have been working on or performed recently to play for the audition faculty.  This can be ANY style of music - a jazz standard or etude is best, but a classical etude, popular song, etc. will also work fine. You will also do some sight-reading in the audition, play some scales, and play a short improvised solo with a play-along CD (most likely a 12-bar blues in B-flat or F; more advanced students will be asked to play an additional selection) provided by the audition faculty.  Rhythm section players may be asked to demonstrate certain grooves (i.e., drummers play a "swing" groove, bass players play a walking bass line over a chord progression, etc.) - if you don't know how to do this, don't worry!  We'll cover all this and more during the course of the workshop.
